“Education is the most powerful weapon that you can use to change the world.” -Nelson Mandela
Sheri began her career in education in New York City in 2004, teaching 8th grade math in the South Bronx as a Teach For America fellow after graduating from Penn State University with a Bachelors of Science degree in Finance. For the next ten years, Sheri worked tirelessly in and outside of the classroom to ensure that all students achieved an excellent education, regardless of their socio-economic status. During her time in New York, Sheri simultaneously earned her Masters in Teaching from Pace University in 2006 and also pursued her administrative certification at Manhattan College and graduated in 2011.
For five years, Sheri taught 6th and 8th grade math at C.I.S. 303 The Leadership and Community Service Academy. For the next five years, Sheri worked at Equality Charter School in the Co-Op City section of the Bronx as a 6th grade math teacher and then as a Math and Science Instructional Coach and eventually being promoted to the Director of Instruction for Math and Science for the school.
After having children, Sheri made the decision to leave New York City when she was offered a position as a 6th grade math teacher at Westside Middle School Academy in Danbury, CT. After only a year, Sheri was promoted to the role of STEM Department for all middle schools in Danbury, which she held for two years until she was promoted to an Assistant Principal at Broadview Middle School in Danbury, where she remains today. Sheri is pursuing her doctorate in Instructional Leadership at Western Connecticut State University and is the lucky mother to Thomas (TJ), 4 and Riley (pictured) who is 3.
Even after 14 years in education, it is still Sheri’s passion and belief that all students should have the opportunity to achieve an excellent education.
